Wedding industry copywriter

Why do I call myself The Wedding Wordsmith?

And why do I love being a wedding writer who creates copy & content for the wedding industry?

The Wedding Wordsmith is Helen Dorritt, a freelance writer and editor in Bristol. I've been a wedding writer for 14 years, with five of those spent sitting in the editor's chair at bridal magazine West Weddings

I use my experience in both writing and the wedding industry to help your wedding business truly shine, creating compelling and on-brand SEO copy and content that helps you find your ideal clients.

My time at the magazine gave me a real passion for the wedding industry and a huge respect for the creativity, energy and friendliness of those who work in it. It was therefore a natural step to combine my love of words and love of weddings as a copy and content writer for wedding businesses.

Working with me frees up your precious time so you can focus on doing the thing you love. Because I've been in the wedding industry for so long, I totally get what it's like to run a wedding business. I know how much energy, passion and effort you put into it – and I'm here to champion that.

Think of me as your writing cheerleader, supporting you and your wedding business with copy and content that showcases your expertise to your dream couples.

When I'm not writing about weddings, I'm a writer and editor for publishers, third sector organisations and creative small businesses.

I'm lucky to work on a number of lovely craft and lifestyle magazines such as Simply Crochet, Gardens Illustrated and Simply Christmas. I also have a range of local and national clients including English Heritage, The Book Publicist and Ethical Sales.

Some of the gorgeous creative businesses I've worked with include Nicola Jane Photography, Petit Jovial and Cosmically Conscious.

You can read more about what else I get up to on my online portfolio and my LinkedIn profile.

I like using words for good, so I volunteer as a grant writing fundraiser for our local community-owned pool as well as doing the copywriting for its website. This also taps into my love of being in the water.

When I'm not writing, you'll find me hanging from a trapeze, pottering in my allotment, crocheting a granny square, playing Scrabble (which also made an appearance in our wedding invitations), swimming in the sea, cycling along the river or enjoying a book and a cup of coffee.

The Wedding Wordsmith values

Inclusive

I love working with wedding businesses of all shapes and sizes, from fledgling start-ups to well-established companies. I give the same excellent level of service no matter the size of your wedding business or the couples you work with.

Accessible

I believe that communication should be accessible to all, so I always structure my website copy so it can be read by screen readers. I've also ensured my own website is as accessible as possible, including its text structure, contrast colours and alt text. I'm happy to advise you on this for your website.

Always learning

I'm constantly updating my knowledge, from writing and copywriting skills to SEO best practice, so I can share that with my clients and create even more amazing copy and content for you.
