As someone who's a wedding content writer, I thought writing a post about what this role actually is and how it helps your business would be useful. And also how it's completely different to a wedding content creator!
What's the difference between copywriting and content writing?
I've written a post that goes into this difference in more detail, but simply put, copy drives people towards an action, while content informs, educates and entertains.
You use content to build trust, share your knowledge and expertise and answer questions people may have. While it's not directly driving people towards buying something, it can definitely serve as a sales tool because it positions you as an expert and reassures couples that you know what you're talking about – and therefore it's worth investigating the rest of your website.
What is content writing for my wedding business?
Wedding business content writing is blog posts, social media captions and articles. Out of these, I'd say blog posts are the content that will have the biggest impact.
There are so many reasons why blogging is great for your wedding business (I break them down in my blog post on the topic), particularly for your SEO and AIO/GEO. Search engines love fresh content that's relevant, well-written, answers the questions people are asking and presents a unique perspective. Blogging is the easiest way to tick all those off.
I really can't emphasise enough how important it is to blog on your own website. (Yes, Substack is great, but don't give them your SEO currency.) Some of the highest ranked and most-visited pages on my website are blog posts. Unlike social media, blog posts live forever. They can also be repurposed into social media posts, so they really are the workhorse of the content world.
You can also get very smart with your blog posts and create topic clusters. These are ways of organising your content so you signal to search engines that you're a real expert on this topic, and definitely worthy of being returned high in search results.
In this new era of AI-driven search, topic clusters provide a deep level of knowledge that's helpful when people type more conversational queries into AI engines and are prompted to further refine their search. Having clusters of content on your site that answer lots of people's questions means you're more likely to be cited. (I go into this in more detail in my blog post on topic clusters.
If you needed any more convincing, I'll add some juicy stats here (all taken from the Marketing LTB report):
Blogs receive 70% of traffic from organic search on average.
Updating old blogs can improve search rankings by up to 70%.
Businesses with blogs generate 67% more leads than companies without one.
Do I need a wedding content writer for my business?
The answer to this depends on a number of factors. Just like anything to do with your wedding business, you can absolutely DIY content writing, and if you love writing then it's something that can be a lot of fun. I know lots of wedding businesses who write their own blog and really enjoy it. But working with a professional wedding content writer can be great for a number of reasons:
You're struggling to find time to craft well-research, relevant blog posts.
You don't enjoy writing and would rather be focussing on other elements of your business.
The thought of adding more onto your to-do list fills you with horror.
You don't know where to start with planning posts that are relevant to your audience and will help your SEO/GEO.
Outsourcing your content writing can free up lots of time, relieve you from the stress of writing regular blog posts and ensure your SEO is being consistently worked on.
Hang on, what's the difference between a wedding content writer and a wedding content creator?
Good question, as they do sound so similar!
A wedding content writer crafts written content for your website and other platforms. A wedding content creator is a relatively new role, and is someone who captures behind-the-scenes clips and photos at a wedding using a smartphone. They're perfect for people who want easily shareable photos and videos from their wedding in a quick turnaround time.

Working with me as a wedding content writer
I love writing blog posts for wedding businesses. In fact, it was blogging that got me workwise to where I am today. I discovered the world of personal blogging in 2008, and started my own in 2009, which in turn gave me the confidence that yes, I could actually write and maybe I could make a living from it? Cue a work experience placement at a wedding magazine, fast forward 16 years, and here I am!
I write one-off and regular blogs for wedding businesses, and also work on content strategy. Examples of my posts in the wild include Alfriston Gardens and Duesudue.
So if you feel working with a wedding content writer is something that would be good for your business, I'd love to talk! Get in touch for a free, no-obligation chat about how we could work together on your wedding content.
